Frequently asked questions
Which compression mode should I use?
Start with Lossless — it keeps everything identical and selectable. If the file is a scan or full of photos and still too large, use Strong compression, which turns each page into a compressed image.
Why can't I select text after Strong compression?
Strong compression redraws every page as a JPEG image, which is what makes scanned documents much smaller. The trade-off is that text becomes part of the picture, so it can't be selected, searched or copied.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
PDFs exported from word processors are often already compact. Most of a PDF's size usually comes from images, so documents with little imagery have little to remove losslessly.
Is compression done on your servers?
No. Both modes run entirely in your browser, which keeps sensitive documents private.
