Frequently asked questions
Why is there a background behind my SVG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so every empty part of the SVG is filled with the background colour you pick. If you need a see-through background, switch the output format to PNG or WebP.
When is JPG a better choice than PNG for an SVG?
JPG suits SVGs with gradients, shadows or photo-like detail, and places that only accept JPEG such as some forms and older apps. For flat logos and icons, PNG is usually sharper and often just as small.
Why do edges look slightly blurry or blocky?
JPEG compression softens sharp edges, especially at low quality. Raise the quality to 92–100% or convert at 2× or larger so fine lines have more pixels to work with.
Can I convert an SVG that contains embedded HTML?
SVGs that use foreignObject to embed HTML cannot be turned into images by browsers for security reasons. Export them from your design tool as plain shapes first.
Why turn an SVG into a JPG?
JPG opens everywhere: in every photo viewer, phone gallery, office suite and upload form. When a website or app rejects SVG files, converting to JPG gives you an image that will be accepted, at whatever resolution you need.
Choosing a background
SVGs often have a transparent background, but JPG files are always solid. Pick white for documents and most websites, black or a brand colour for dark designs, or match the colour of the page the image will sit on. The preview in the list shows the result before you download it.
Keeping it sharp
JPEG compression is made for photographs and can soften thin lines and small text. For graphics, keep the quality at 90% or above and convert at 2× or larger. If the SVG is a flat logo or icon and transparency matters, the PNG option on this page is a better fit.
What the browser can and can't draw
Shapes, gradients, filters, masks and embedded images all convert. Outside files such as web fonts and linked pictures are not loaded, and SVGs containing embedded HTML (foreignObject) cannot be converted by any browser. Your files are processed on your device and never leave it.
