What happens to transparent areas?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background colour you choose — white by default. Pick a colour that matches where the image will be used.
Which quality should I pick?
Around 85–92% keeps images crisp while making them much smaller than PNG. Lower values save more space but can show blocky artefacts around text and sharp edges.
When should I keep an image as PNG?
Keep PNG for logos, icons, screenshots with text and anything that needs transparency. Convert photos and large illustrations to JPG to save space.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your images are converted on your device with the browser's Canvas API.
Convert PNG to JPG and save space
PNG screenshots and exported graphics can be several megabytes. Converting them to JPG often reduces the size by 70–90%, which makes them easier to email, upload and share.
Handling transparency
JPG files cannot be transparent. Choose a background colour — white suits documents and most websites, while a dark colour may match a dark-mode design. Any transparent or semi-transparent pixels are blended onto that colour.
Choosing the quality
The default of 92% keeps text and edges sharp. For photos, 80–85% saves more space with little visible difference. Avoid very low quality for screenshots containing text, as JPEG artefacts are most noticeable around sharp edges.
