Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs on your own device, on its graphics chip when it has one, so your photos never leave it.
Why does the first photo take longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model, about 47 MB, and keeps it. After that the model starts straight away, and most photos take one to a few seconds depending on the device.
Which photos work best?
Photos with a clear subject: a person, a pet, a product, a car. Busy scenes with several things in front can keep or drop parts of them, so check the preview with the slider before you download.
Can I make a white background for product listings?
Yes. Choose White and download a JPG. Marketplaces such as Amazon and Flipkart ask for the main product photo on a pure white background, and the white used here is exactly RGB 255, 255, 255.
Should I download PNG or JPG?
PNG keeps the transparent background, which you need for logos, stickers, slides and design apps. JPG files are smaller but cannot be transparent, so pick a background colour or the blur first.
Is there a watermark or a size limit?
No watermark and no sign-up. Downloads keep the photo's full size up to 16 megapixels, which covers most phone cameras; larger photos are scaled down to that.
AI that runs on your device
Most background removers upload your photo to a server and charge for the full-size result. Here the AI model comes to your photo instead: your browser downloads it once, about 47 MB, and runs it on your own phone or computer. Your pictures never leave the page, downloads are full size, there is no watermark, and there is no limit on how many photos you do.
The model is ISNet from the DIS project (Dichotomous Image Segmentation, Apache 2.0 licence), trained to separate the main subject of a photo from everything behind it, including fine edges such as hair. It runs with ONNX Runtime Web: on the graphics chip through WebGPU when your browser has it, where most photos take a second or two, and on every processor core otherwise.

Tips for a clean cut-out
The clearer the subject stands out, the cleaner the edge. Even light, a background in a different colour from the subject's clothes or packaging, and the whole subject in the frame all help. Drag the slider over the result to compare with the original before you download; use Blur when a hard cut-out would look out of place, as it keeps the original scene softly behind the subject.
