Frequently asked questions
Which favicon files does my website need?
A favicon.ico for broad compatibility, 16×16 and 32×32 PNGs for browser tabs, a 180×180 apple-touch-icon for iPhones and iPads, and 192×192 and 512×512 icons referenced from a web manifest for Android and installable web apps.
What size image should I upload?
Use a square image of at least 512×512 pixels with a simple, bold design. Fine detail disappears at 16×16, so logos with thick shapes or a single letter work best.
My new favicon is not showing — why?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Check the files are in your site's root folder, then hard-refresh or open the site in a private window. It can take a while for tabs and bookmarks to update.
Is my logo uploaded?
No. All icons are drawn and packaged in your browser, including the ZIP file.
Create a complete favicon set
A favicon is the small icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks, search results and on phone home screens. Modern sites need several sizes for different devices. This generator creates the whole set from one image, a letter or an emoji, together with the HTML to install it.
Files included
- favicon.ico — contains 16×16, 32×32 and 48×48 icons for maximum compatibility.
- favicon-16x16.png and favicon-32x32.png — for browser tabs on standard and high-resolution screens.
- apple-touch-icon.png (180×180) — used when someone adds your site to an iPhone or iPad home screen.
- android-chrome-192x192.png and 512×512 plus site.webmanifest — for Android home screens and installable web apps.
Design tips
Keep it simple: at 16×16 pixels only bold shapes survive. A single letter, a monogram or a simplified logo mark on a solid background is easiest to recognise. Check the tab preview above — if you cannot tell what it is there, simplify further.
Installing your favicon
Upload all files to the root of your website (the same folder as your homepage), paste the HTML snippet into the <head> of your pages, and edit the name in site.webmanifest. Browsers cache favicons, so use a private window to check the result.
